An Amazing Journey Begins For K, 1st, & 2nd Grades
Create, Intrigue, Absorb & More
Maximize your child’s educational experience in early elementary with us. Here the perfect balance of structured learning events and creative play activities await your child at every developmental stage. As you enter our classrooms you will witness our discovery zones of learning, each designed to stimulate creative and/or logical thought.
Engagement begins even before carpool has ended. Children race into school each morning as they love the math manipulatives and mathematical games awaiting them prior to morning announcements. Our day officially begins with prayer and pledge which is led by 2nd graders.
While the structure of the day varies based upon grade, one consistent component of our program is that grade level teachers have a one-hour planning period per day to work together to promote consistency of curricular opportunities made available for their students. Core academics are taught in a hybrid of traditional and innovative approaches. At this developmental stage, students are determining ultimately what their dominant learning style will be. These first three years are critical to the rest of their educational experiences. A combination of phonics and sight-word method of teaching is utilized for teaching students how to read. Traditional mathematic teaching tactics are integrated alongside creative modern hands-on implementation. Social studies units are paired with science discoveries to teach students in an in-depth fashion how to develop a heightened awareness of the world around them. Our fifth core academic study is religion. We know that a child’s religious foundation is built at home. Therefore, we are honored to be partners in this vital area with our students and their parents. Our religious study at this level culminates with students given the opportunity to receive First Communion and a deep understanding of the Gospels, biblical values, Catholic traditions and church events.
In addition to classes taught by their teacher, all early elementary students participate in enrichment classes. On a daily basis they trek to the gymnasium to work on fine and gross motor skills in PE through active participation in specific units of study. On a weekly basis they travel to other classes to study technology in the elementary computer lab, to check out books in the library, to speak a foreign language in the Spanish room, and experience art and music in the fine arts room. A biweekly lesson is presented in their class by our guidance counselor as well.
We know that this age children especially thrive when they see their parents actively involved in their educational experience. We strive to achieve close working relationships with all our parents and to have very open lines of communication. Parents may be actively involved during the school day by assisting in learning centers, in the technology lab, with special events, as mystery readers or at night by talking to children about the excitement of new knowledge gained, developing specific academic goals, and dedicating specific time for homework and play time.
