Middle School:  A Journey through the Ages
For 6th, 7th & 8th Grades
Reason, Innovate, Collaborate & Appreciate

Welcome to the POP Scholars Program, an exciting and innovative approach designed specifically for the Prince of Peace Middle School. Our robust and distinctive curriculum is completely focused on connecting educational dots in a fun environment that keeps children motivated to learn more.  Intense planning uniquely links educational concepts in themed and chronological interest areas across the curriculum.  Our ultimate goal is to create enthusiastic graduates who are passionate life-long learners and able to transition effortlessly into high school and succeed there!

Scholars’ Units of Study

*Each of the above units is studied for a three-week period, rendering a multi-perspective and multi-disciplinary approach to each era.

Each three-week unit of study is broken down into major content areas.

Upon entering 6th grade, students not only take part in a ceremonial Bridge Crossing where they become "American Scholars," but they also are initiated into our House Program where all of the qualities of a knight (our mascot) and of a well-rounded student are promoted. The House Program is a competitive and fun team approach to tackling all of the social and emotional challenges typically associated with middle school. Students are assigned to one of four houses (St. Francis, St. James, St. Paul and St. Thomas) in which they remain until graduation. This program provides students with a social outlet of allowing friendships to move beyond grade levels; positive peer pressure encourages students to uphold high academic and moral standards, and weekly competitions promote leadership and critical thinking opportunities.

Our middle school is highly energetic, happy, student centered, and centered on teaching principles and skills that really affect the quality of our students’ adult lives.  A structured framework incorporates the layers of learning.  It is our philosophy that all children can learn and meet the greatest of goals.  By the time our students graduate middle school, they will have mastered and be highly comfortable completing the following tasks:

1)  Drawing a free-hand map of the world (yes, they can label every single country)
2)  Writing a chronological essay of the history of the world in an hour
3)  Discussing and acting out Shakespearean plays (in their own iambic pentameter)
4)  Writing five-paragraph formal essays with quotes and a works cited page.
(They will have written nearly thirty with us, so this is second nature to them.)
5)  Writing creatively (Check out our creative writing class and portfolios.)
6)  Speaking in Spanish (They complete a Spanish I textbook in 7th & 8th grades.)
7)  Working with technology programs which align themselves with core curriculum.
(For instance, students might write their own play in creative writing and then turn it into a Kerpoof cartoon video or work a budget for math on excel.)
8)  Applying math to real-life situations and exploring science inquiries on a daily basis.
9)  Teaching high level chess strategies to others, and
10)  Most importantly, they are comfortable with sharing their faith and knowing God has great plans for their future.

We are bursting at the seams to show you what we do each day.  Please join us for a tour.  We are also happy to arrange for prospective students to observe our class structure.  We recommend Fridays, as those are the absolute highlight of our week, just stop in and you’ll know why.

St. Thomas Medieval knights believed that they could have it all and do everything.  They were resourceful, resilient and adventuresome.  As a Prince of Peace Knight, our students are exposed to a little bit of everything in hopes that they can better discover their own great passions and abilities.

Students engage in a wide varitey of activities that promote our pledge and prepare them for the life lessons that will lead to confident, compassionate, successful and happy young adults.

All middle school students are assigned to a "house" upon entering 6th grade.  They remain in this house until graduation.  Members of each house work together on social projects and compete with the other houses for earning the most points.
